Portraits
I enjoy painting portraits in a loose style which I refer to a gesture portraits. My idea of an interesting work is one in which the unique character of a person is captured in a gesture and where it can be enjoyed as an interesting work of art. I believe that a photo representational painting of a person is boring and prevents the viewer from having an interactive experience. My works, border on abstract, focus on brushwork and paint, and offer multiple perspectives from up close to far away. My prices vary according to size.
All commissions require a non refundable deposit of $ 200. I will review various options (i.e. size, palette, etc.), discuss composition and outline a schedule for producing the work. I generally spend time with the subjects; sketching and photographing likely scenes. From this research, I will produce a study (usually 9” x 12”) which will guide the painting of the portrait. While interviews are an important part of the process, I do not use formal sittings.
The painting is not finished until the buyer is satisfied. Finishing touches based upon suggestions (and in some cases directions) from the client are part of the completion process. If for any reason, the buyer is not satisfied and requests cannot be accommodated, I will keep the painting and no further amount will be due.
